Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe is the European Union's ambitious Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2021-2027). It aims at:
- strengthening the scientific and technological bases of the EU and the European Research Area (ERA);
- improving innovation capacity, competitiveness and employment in Europe;
- achieving the priority objectives for citizens and supporting the socio-economic model and the human and social values of Europe.
The programme consists of 3 priority pillars:
- Excellent Science: the first pillar aims at funding excellence in European research, by the means of the European Research Council (ERC), the Marie-Curie Actions and the development of appropriate infrastructures;

- Innovative Europe: the third pillar focuses on supporting innovative realities that put cooperation with the business world first through the European Innovation Council (EIC), the European Innovation Ecosystems and the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIIT).
In addition to the three main pillars, two cross-cutting priorities have also been outlined. They are aimed at broadening participation and strengthening the European Research Area.
